Public Library For Kids At Childcare Pasir Ris

Share: Pasir Ris Community Library, which officially opened on 6 October 2000
, is located on the fourth floor of White Sands Shopping Mall at 1 Pasir Ris Central St 3, #04-01/06, Singapore 518457. It is the eighth rental library to be located in a shopping mall and the 18th community library of the National Library Board (NLB). PRCL's emphasis is on family and parenting because of the relatively large number of young families living in Pasir Ris with kids at
childcare center Pasir Ris.
When NLB was setting up the new library at Pasir Ris, it carried out a survey. The survey indicated that 41.6% of the people living in the area were aged between 25 and 39, and these were mainly young married couples with at least one child at
childcare Pasir Ris. They are followed by the 10 to 24 age group (22.1%), new-born to nine (17.2%), 40 to 54 (11.5%) and 55 and above (7.5%). Given such demographics, it was decided that the new library would aim at reaching out to the large number of young families in the area and that the library's emphasis would be on family and parenting. The library was officially opened by Rear-Admiral (NS) Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Education, Second Minister for Defence, Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris GRC, on 6 October 2000. It was built at a cost of S$1 million, excluding the expenditure on books and computers. There is also a Programme Zone, which provides a platform for talks, forums, exhibitions and performances. Programmes at PRCL are based on the "family and parenting" theme. They are conducted on the first and third Saturdays of the month. Entitled Family Ties, these programmes cater to the learning needs of young families in the Pasir Ris area. The library has a collection of 120,000 books and periodicals. The selection of titles reflects the library's thrust, with the librarians actively sourcing for parenting titles. PRCL reaches out to approximately 148,000 people living in the following constituencies: Elias, Loyang and Pasir Ris.
The library helps to teach the children attending
preschool Pasir Ris about order and the importance of taking care of books, in other words: responsibility. The number of books and other items such as music CDs and film DVDs that a child can lend have increased significantly which means that the child along with the parents must learn to look after and not lose the items whilst in their care.
Public libraries are a place that has something for everyone, from picture books for babies to encyclopedias and reference books. The library has the potential to fire a childs imagination. The childrens section in a library has books that will excite and stimulate the minds of the children attending
kindergarten Pasir Ris. Regularly attending the library will become a habit that you and the children will not want to break. The children will look forward to their visit. The anticipation of looking for more exciting tales that can be read to them or that they can read to themselves will be something they will look forward to.
