Probability, as a common word, is the chances or possibility of something happening. When we say that there may be a heavy rain today, we say it by observation. Seeing heavy clouds and humid atmosphere, we are able to deduce that there are chances of heavy rain, but we are not able to say for sure whether there will be rain or not. This is probability. In mathematics, probability problems for kids involve the concept of expressing probability in numbers, not in sentences. Some Common Terms Used in Probability Problems for Kids

Trial: Performing an action that has a specific outcome once is called a trial. Many trials make an experiment.
Event: The possible outcomes of an experiment are called its events.

Problem 1 :
A coin is tossed 1000 times and the outcomes are noted as :
Head: 487, Tail: 513
find the probability of the coin coming up with (i) a head (ii) a tail
Solution:-
The coin is tossed 1000 times. Thus, the total number of trials is 1000. Let the event of the coin coming up with a head be represented by the letter E1 and the event of the coin coming up with a tail is E2.
The number of times coin comes up with a head is E1 = 487
The number of times coin comes up with a tail is E2 = 513
The probability of the coin coming up with a head is
P (E1) = number of times E1 occurred/total number of trials.
P (E1) = 487/1000
P (E1) = 0.487
Thus, the probability of getting a head on the coin is 0.487.
the probability of the coin coming up with a tail is
P (E2) = number of times E2 occurred/total number of trials.
P (E2) = 513/1000
P (E2) = 0.513
Problem 2:
Two coins are tossed simultaneously a 500 times and the results are noted as follows:-
head + tail : 100
head + head : 280
tail + tail : 120
Find the probability of the occurrence of each of the above events
Solution:-
Total number of trials: 500
Let the three possible events of getting two heads, two tails and one head and one tail be E1, E2 and E3.
Probability of getting two heads = number of times event E1 has occurred/total number of trials.
P (E1) = 100/500
P (E1) = 0.20
Probability of getting one head and one tail = number of times event E2 has occurred/total number of trials
P (E2) = 280/500
P (E2) = 0.56
Probability of getting two tails = number of times event E3 has occurred/total number of trials
P (E3) = 120/500
P (E3) = 0.24
Thus, the probability of the three events are,
two heads, P(E1) = 0.20
one head and one tail, P(E2) = 0.54
two tails, P(E3) = 0.24
