Poverty And Family Never A Hindrance To Ambition
An old woman already 40 years of age went with nothing but her guts and tattered
farm clothes and expressed her intention to study at the local university's college of literature, science and the arts. She was nothing more but a convent educated farm wife who just got out of a chicken ranch and here she was saying that she intended to become a doctor. Before approving the lady's application, the university's admission head sent her to the psychologist for he was so skeptical.
Ten years later in the time of spring, this old lady has achieved something that is unlikely to be equaled, states the university spokesman. They further made it known that right within that long period of 10 years, she had been able to achieve all her premed and medical school requirements for a doctorate, while she raised her ten offspring with her husband.
This lady physician still needs to cover one year for her local hospital internship followed by an application for a 3 year residency at an eastern medical center for internal medicine practice. She envisions herself to have a full medical career. Twenty five years is the average career of a doctor and I intend to last beyond that.
They can easily recall that back in the year 1964, her chicken farm operator husband decided to change his profession after he had been in the business for 15 years, and also suggested that his wife find ways to bring in money for their family. He got a job as a specialist in electronics instrumentation at the local laboratory of research. Chasing her dreams by taking higher studies, his wife studied but also got by with a part time job working in the university's blood processing laboratory.
Everyone asks me this, she shares, but then it's not really a tough time for me being a student while covering the responsibilities of a mother of ten. Of course, we had to manage money very carefully, and we just scraped by. All of them cooperated even without me asking them for anything. Bill has always been a very active father, and the children all helped. I only handle the dishes since I don't do much cooking. Doing the dishes and cooking would work out for us.

Of their 10 children, only 2 remain at home. Their son aged 14 is a student at the local junior high school, while the boy who is three years older has just finished in the local high school. But they know that their 29 year old son who is also the eldest can easily see them as he lives within the area and manages his own motor parts store. Towards her medical education, the lady doctor maintains that she firmly believes the secret was learning to acknowledge the role of a doctor without trailing behind as a woman. She is truly a successful person as she answered her calling and achieved personal growth.
