Picking Out The Right Park Destination
Yosemite National Park is loved by a lot of people
. To say it is breathtaking is so cliche? but truly appropriate especially when coming out of the last Highway 41 tunnel and catching a glimpse of Yosemite Valley down below.The combination of the waterfalls along with the Half Dome protuberance and the walled valley solid gray rocks make for an awesome shot regardless of your photography skill level.
Yosemite visitors are quite numerous which explains why 95 percent of them only get to cover five percent of the park encompassing the valley. But the shear vertical nature of Yosemite makes the crowds bearable in a way they aren't at Yellowstone or even the Grand Canyon. The eye is always drawn up and away from fellow travelers. Summer is not the best time to visit as crowds are larger.
Nothing much about the Great Smoky Mountains national park has people enamoured with the place. Walk by the park trails to find out why the park is known as the most visited one. With 9.2 million annual visitors, it draws more than twice the visitors of the Grand Canyon. Westerners who visited the park previously and bore with the jam packed roads did not really see anything stunning.
Tourist magnets including casinos are found in abundance within towns like Gatlinburg and Cherokee. In the past several years air quality has not been good. It perhaps has reached its limit having been the main allure of national parks.
The national park I'd most like to visit is Wrangell Saint Elias. Gates of the Arctic along with Kobuk Valley rarely receive visitors but the two form part of the 55 million acre parkland located in Alaska. The park service labels it as The Mountain Kingdom of North America and is the one place few tourists have seen as they only stay within Anchorage. There is no other place boasting of glaciers as well as mountains in excess of 16000 feet elevation.
A lot of people would care to return to the Grand Canyon North Rim. Many prefer taking a long drive to get to the North Rim as opposed to going to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Having been to the Grand Canyon before people know about the huge crowds and soon find themselves wishing they were alone appreciating the awesome canyon views.
My favorite wildlife is the Everglades where I've seen buffalo in Yellowstone and grizzlies in Kobuk Valley. A bunch of alligators usually sun themselves on mudflats covering the Anhinga Trail of Everglades which is also a fun to watch.
From its pointed teeth as it yawns to its silent and slow dip into the water with nothing left above the surface but its small eyes it is little wonder many get the chills when they see it.
Some people considered Monument Valley as one of the national parks. The West is well represented in its monoliths in the shade of red. The space sitting between Arizona and Utah form a portion of the reservation for the Navajo Indians and has been used as backdrop for several flicks.
But strings cannot be pulled to reclassify it as a national park because it is presently listed with a sovereign status. Still many remain loyal to it and consider it a fave site.
Most travelers think Hot Springs does not deserve the national park distinction. Bathhouse Row down at the Arkansas spa town offers a traditional rubdown treatment. It might be a no to classifying it a national park however it can pass for a national historical place. 1832 onwards had the land classified as federal and was only grandfathered sometime in 1916 the same year the National Park Service emerged. Once a member of the club getting out is near impossible.
There is a pair of pleasant surprises in store for Glacier Waterton International Peace Park visitors.
The entire region constitutes one international peace park place. There is a simulated Tudor Prince of Wales Hotel on the Canadian side worth seeing together with its teatime service done the old fashioned British Empire way.
