Phuket Holds The 8th Soccer 7s Tournament
On November 27 to 28 of this year, the Phuket International Soccer 7s annual football tournament will be held
. Once again, soccer teams from all over the world will come together in friendly competition to play their favorite sport, soccer. For eight straight years, the organizers and the sponsors of the event have been successful in putting in order the series of soccer games. More than anything, it has been a testament to multinational talent, skill, and camaraderie.Participants from all over the world include different teams from England, India, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, Cambodia, China, Germany, and of course, from its host country, Thailand. The global diversity of the teams and their players add up to the excitement of the game and the challenge of pure skill. Everybody is openly invited to form a team and join the competition.
The thing that separates this competition from other soccer tournaments is the lack of prize money for the winners. The thing that drives the participating teams to travel all the way to Thailand is showmanship and the desire to play. It is just passion in its purest form. The principle behind the success of the tournament is sincere camaraderie between the playing teams.
Having the tournament run for eight years now is enough proof that teams keep on joining regardless of what distant country they come from, just so they could be able to play, form friendships, and have fun in the whole experience.
There are two main divisions in the Phuket Soccer 7s Tournament: the Open Men Category and the Masters Men Category. There will be a maximum of 24 and 20 teams in each division, respectively. However, there is another soccer tournament, the Phuket Spicy Soccer 7s. The said tournament has been held every year and will celebrate its third annual tournament come February 2011.
The games in the 8th Phuket International Soccer 7s, together with the 5th Andaman International Soccer 7s, are estimated to be over 300 games in total. 88 teams from roughly 18 countries will be participating in the two tournaments, with the Andaman tournament taking place a week before the one in Phuket.
The venue of the games is tentatively decided to be at the Phuket International Academy (PIA) or the Karon Stadium. The locations are not only amenable to the playing field for the games; they are also convenient for players flying from different countries. This is because these venues are situated proximal to the hotels where the teams will check in and to the airport, too.
Of course, the organizers will not permit for the soccer teams to not experience the night life of Phuket. Relaxation and de-stressing are only fit for the players after a day of serious football business. Parties will be all around the city. The players can enjoy local food and specialty cuisine in various restaurants. Clubs and bars are open for their night time enjoyment.
