Petronas Towers - An Imposing Structure
Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Twin Towers are also known simply as Petronas Towers by people around the world
. These towers are recognized as one of the largest twin tower structures in the world and are a magnificent sight for first time visitors. While the height of the structure from ground level to the roof top is a staggering 378.6m its total height after taking its antenna into consideration amounts up to 451.9m. Construction work of the structure was completed in 1998 at a cost of approximately USD$1.6 billion. The facility is consistent of 88 floors which provide a total floor area of around 395,000sqm. 78 elevators in total are in operation here allowing access to its visitors on a daily basis.The multi tower structure was designed by the renowned architects Djay Cerico and Cesar Pelli who designed the massive structure to perfection despite the requirements of its sponsors demanded that it had to qualify as the tallest structure in the world upon completion. One of the towers is occupied by Petroliam Nasional Bhd which is the company otherwise known as Petronas. A number of subordinate companies which belong to Petronas can also be found in this tower. The other tower facilitates several high profile companies such as Al Jazeera English, Bloomberg, IBM and Accenture.
The Skybridge which connects the two towers is located on the 41st floor and is designed to withstand even the windiest conditions that the weather might throw at it. To avoid structural damage the bridge is not directly bolted to the structural frame of the tower but is designed so that it slides in to state of the art socket system. KLCC Park is a beautiful 17 acre park area located at the foot of the Petronas Towers which is home to a magnificent fountain, mall and a childrens playground.
