Pearl Jam Tickets - Pearl Jam Reunites With Conan O'brien Before Tour
Pearl Jam was the very first musical guest on Conan O'Brien's short-lived
NBC late night show Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, and Billboard.com reports that the Seattle rock band reunited with the funnyman on his current tour. Eddie Vedder & Co. paid a surprise visit to Conan's Seattle show on his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour on April 19. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder performed a three-song mini-set during O'Brien's post-birthday gig (he turned 47 the day before), beginning with "Rise" off his 2007 solo soundtrack to the film Into the Wild.Vedder performed a rendition of John Lennon's "Oh Yoko" next, accompanied by a Telecaster-style ukulele, and changed the lyrics to "Oh Conan" in honor of the birthday boy. Vedder joked with the crowd, "There's something that happens when you play very small instruments. It somehow creates the illusion that you're tall; an illusion that's completely shattered as soon as Conan O'Brien stands next to you." For the record, Vedder is 5'8" while O'Brien looms at 6'4". Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready took the stage for the third and final song, a cover of the Who's "Baba O'Riley," which featured backing by O'Brien's horn section.
Pearl Jam announced plans to embark on their current tour via their official website on March 11, just days before the band was a musical guest on Saturday Night Live on March 13. Before kicking off their tour, which is in support of 2009's Backspacer, on May 3 in Kansas City, Mo., Pearl Jam will perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on May 1. The Big Easy event takes place April 23 through May 2 and will also feature performances by Simon & Garfunkel, My Morning Jacket, Lionel Ritchie, Van Morrison, Darius Rucker, Widespread Panic, Aretha Franklin and others.
Pearl Jam will be stopping in cities like Saint Louis, Mo.; Columbus, Ohio; Noblesville, Ind.; Cleveland, Ohio; Bristow, Va.; Hartford, Conn.; Boston, Mass. and more before capping off their road trip with a two-night stand at New York's Madison Square Garden on May 20 and 21. Fans can get their hands on Pearl Jam tickets by heading online. After a short hiatus, Eddie Vedder & Co. will cross the Atlantic for a string of shows beginning with a June 22 gig in Dublin. The band's batch of European dates end on July 10 in Oeiras, Portugal.
Although there is no word yet on the follow-up to Pearl Jam's most recent album, Backspacer, Billboard.com reports that a live version of "Animal" from the band's 2008 Bonnaroo appearance will appear on an upcoming Best of Bonnaroo compilation. Organized by HeadCount and the NRDC Action Fund, the proceeds from sales of the compilation will raise awareness about climate change.
In other Pearl Jam news, guitarist Stone Gossard is prepping for the release of a new album, Best Friends?, with his side band Brad. Brad recently played a solo-out shot in Seattle on April 14. Billed as Brad & Friends-which features Pearl Jam's Gossard and Jeff Ament as well as their surviving Mother Love Bone bandmates Bruce Fairweather and Greg Gilmore-the gig was in honor of the 20th anniversary or the death of Mother Love Bone lead singer Andy Wood.
