Rajasthan has always been popular for its enormous ancient monuments and the heritage
left by our ancestors but the royal state does also have several popular wildlife sanctuaries and National Parks which are giving refuge to many exotic wildlife species.The forested zones of National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries work as oasis in the parched out land of Rajasthan and provide the wildlife species with all required provisions. Out of many wildlife spotting places in Rajasthan, few places like Ranthambore National Park, Keoladeo National Park, Sariska National Park and Darrah National Park are popular world wide and draw international tourists on large numbers to its divinity.
A trip to Rajasthan is always incomplete if you dont visit the den of Royal Bengal Tiger in Ranthambore National Park. This park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan and is approachable from all major cities of Rajasthan. The wilderness of Ranthambore spans over 430 sq. kms and is the stomping ground of significant numbers of carnivores. Along with being the habitat of tigers, Ranthambore is also known to have inhabitants like sloth bear, monitor lizards, caracal, leopards, swamp deer, spotted deer, sambhar deer ( the biggest deer species in Asia) and many other rare species. Marsh crocodile are also found in abundance in the small lakes of Ranthambore.
Sariska National Park is one of the most flora and fauna rich place which has been recently restored after the animals of this park got poached out by money minded outlaws in the past. Sariska is only 300 km away from the capital city Delhi of India and is populated with diversity of antelopes and hyper carnivores. This place is home to many endangered species like rare desert fox, black buck deer, four horned antelope, wild boar, chinkara, jungle cats, bison, bears and recently relocated Bengal tigers.
Keoladeo National Park is primarily a bird watching site and initially was known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. This bird paradise is placed in the Bharatpur District of Rajasthan and covers an area just under 30 sq. km. The park boasts about the presence of 375 species of birds including indigenous and migratory birds in the winter seasons. This place used to be a hunting ground of Maharaja of Bharatputr which he later declared a conserved area for protection of rare species of animals.
Darrah National is one more tiger spotting destination in Rajasthan and is situated 56 kms south of Kota district. Spread in the rises and falls of hilly areas, the National Park is a combination of three wildlife sanctuaries named Darrah, Chambal and Jaswant Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary. Darrah National Park is densely wooded and is thronged with various kinds of wild animals. Wolf, cheetah, nilgai, deer and wild boar are few of the residents of the national park.
The other National Parks and Sanctuaries present in Rajasthan may not parallel the number of exotic species inhabiting in the above mentioned parks, but all protected forest areas are making contributions more or less to salvage the precious wildlife animals.
