2. Notre Dame

Notre Dame owes much of its sightseeing popularity to the tale of its fictional literary hunchback, however this building does not require a folk tale or myth to captivate its visitors. With a history dating back to the 14th century this beautiful building has many inspiring attributes including delicate flying buttresses and a stunning rose window.

3. Sacre Coeur basilica

Sighted on the top of Montmartre hill, which overlooks Paris, the ivory white basilica of Sacre Coeur is one of the most eye catching buildings in the city. Although only constructed in the 19th century, this building has become an accepted part of the Parisian skyline and it is a popular spot for tourists to visit. Like the Eiffel Tower it offers good photographic opportunities looking down upon Paris.

4. The Champs Elysees

The Champs Elysees is probably the most famous street in the world and it acts as the meeting point for twelve other streets whilst connecting two notable plazas. Amongst other things, the Champs Elysees has two wide walkways, one either side of the avenue, and its entire length is lined with exclusive boutiques, palaces and hotels Paris. No one ever visits Paris without strolling down this fashionable boulevard.

5. Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is another famous landmark of Paris, but without witnessing it first hand it is impossible to appreciate the scale of this gargantuan masonry structure. It was built in 1806 and has 284 steps that rise to the top viewing gallery. It has even had a full sized plane fly through its massive open arch. It sits at the west end of the Champs Elysees.

6. Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is simply known as the most beautiful palace in the world. It has 700 rooms and 67 staircases and plays host to two and a half million visitors each year. It was the primary residence of the French royal family, but now acts as a museum.

7. The Louvre

The Louvre is one of a number of art galleries in Paris, but it is without doubt the most renown. Its main benefactor was the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and it was intended as a museum for the people. Today it lives up to that ideal with visitor numbers frequently topping 50,000 people per day.

8. Palais Garnier

The Palais Garnier is a ballet and opera house, but it is most noted for its large stage that can hold up to 450 artists and its beautiful faade and sumptuous internal decorations. The building takes its name from the man behind its design.Paris Visiting and Sightseeing

Bastille day is the most famous and individual of the French public holiday and it celebrates the storming of the Bastille prison and the symbolic start of the French revolution. Bastille day is a festive and entertaining day to spend in Paris and there are lots of exciting events surrounding it.

Roland Garros is something a little bit different that will have an appeal to the sports fans. Roland Garros is actually the name of a tennis stadium, but it is also adopted by the French tennis Open tournament which is held there each year.
