Since Paris is about all things French, does one need to state the obvious when visiting the capital of France? Five star Paris hotels offer rooms with outdoor balconies for a greater view of the city. Does the guest swing open the French doors to feast his eyes on the various landmarks of the city or would it suffice to just swing open the doors and get over with it? When one peruses the breakfast menu, he may encounter a challenge when attempting to make an order of toast. Would he get French toast as the world thinks it to be or would it be minus the coating of beaten egg pan fried to a golden hue followed by cinnamon sugar sprinkles atop or syrupy confection on the side? If one fancies something savory, a condiment may help to enhance the taste of the dish. Upon asking for mustard, one must bear in mind that it is not the neon-yellow paste as accustomed to back home. Equally yellow but less on the neon, the French version from the district of Dijon certainly packs a punch to clear whatever blockage in one's nasal passages.

Adding to the culinary conundrum is the eternal poser with fried potato strips, affectionately known to the world as French fries. However, the locals may see no reason why one places such an order in a Parisian eatery since every fry is naturally French by its origin, method of cooking as well as the kitchen crew handling the task. Since size does seem to matter when it comes to this root vegetable, apparently the local version sports a thicker cut as compared to its shoestring counterpart one is accustomed to from fast food joints. With five star Paris hotels offering an obvious five star cuisine, it is safe to assume that an order of fries would probably be served as the thicker cut version. Otherwise, it is a simple matter of asking the maitre d' to confirm the final appearance of potato fry-up.

As ice cream makes a frequent appearance in the traveler's diet, local vanilla flavors may tickle unprepared taste buds. Once again, French vanilla is unlike the traditional version as it prefers the richer and creamier effect by the heavy infusion of vanilla seeds and egg custard. Truly yummy and punishing to the waist line, no one is complaining. All in all, quoting Walter Cronkite, that's the way it is with the French way of things.
