Parents And Babies Sleeping Together, Is This Safe For Babies?

The debate whether or not it is safe for babies to sleep with you has gone on for years

. On the one hand some say that not only is it safe for the child, it actually has psychological benefits for both child and parents. Others would be quick to point out the many dangers that are present when the baby sleeps in the same bed with you.

Rather than continue this argument, it is just safe to give tips on what ways it is safe for babies to sleep in their parent's bed. One of the big issues is the fear of accidental death by suffocation, or crushing the child. There are some simple solutions to these problems.

The first and best solution is to get a larger bed, so that when baby does sleep with you there is plenty of room. It can be safe for babies to sleep with you, but you need to watch out for a few things. Don't have the baby sleep in between you and another person. Rather, you should have the baby on the side with a barrier such as a wall to prevent a fall.

Most of the time, it is safe for your baby to co-sleep with you. As well as being safe, there are also other advantages. For breastfeeding mothers, having a baby in the bed makes it much easier to nurse at night. You don't have to stumble through the kitchen looking for a bottle; simple stay semi-asleep while you nurse your baby. This will help you feel better during the day too, since you get more rest.

Another option that provides all the benefits of your baby sleeping with you is to use a sleeping basket. Set the basket next to the bed. This makes it simple to hold your baby until she falls off to sleep. Then transfer her to the basket. When the baby wakes up during the night, you can stay in bed and take care of her needs.

If concerned about health problems, having your baby sleep with you can be a benefit. Or at the very least, near you. When your baby is within arm's reach, chances of problems are greatly reduced.

There are times that it is not safe for your baby to sleep in your bed. If you are ill, you can easily infect your baby. Consuming alcohol or sedatives also makes it unsafe for your baby. Illness or alcohol makes your senses "dull", and this will make it more difficult to recognize a problem.

Common sense should be the determining factor when deciding if it's safe for babies to sleep with their parents. If you regularly sleep with your baby, be aware if your routine gets altered: over-exhaustion, alcohol, or stress, theses can effect your baby's safety. If you are in doubt, use the baby bed.
