If you are getting ready to take the plunge and get married

When you introduce your parents to one another, this will be a big day for both of your families.

Whenever possible, arrange to have your parents and his parents meet in person. The groom's family generally schedules this meeting, although modern tradition allows either family to start contact. Arrange the gathering in a desirable location for both parties. Try to choose a peaceful environment where conversation will be possible. Having both families meet for a light lunch or even cocktails and appetizers is a great way to introduce the two sets of parents.
At this meeting, make sure that the conversation stays upbeat and positive. Steer the conversation away from sensitive topics like politics or religion. Focus on light, conversational topics like hobbies and vacations. A great topic that both families share is you and your fiancee. Consider talking about how you met or the wedding plans. Payment time can be a potentially awkward situation. Try to keep this situation as stress free as possible. A great way to avoid potential conflict is to pay for the meal yourself ahead of time.
