Pandora, Style And Substance

The name Pandora has throughout the ages signified something that is unique and special

. In Greek mythology the contents of Pandora's Box (although symptomatically malignant) were designed to be locked away forever, never to be opened.

It was in 1982 in a small village near to Copenhagen, Denmark, that the goldsmith P Enevoldsen and his wife opened up their jewellery store. Keen travellers, they would frequently make trips to the Far East and in particular Thailand in search of jewellery to import. Over time popularity for their range steadily grew, so instead of merely searching out individual items, they decided to focus their attention on the wholesale side of the business.

Merely five years later, after several very successful years in the wholesale market, the company discontinued its retail practices and move into larger premises, this steady growth continued and the wholesale market continued to be fruitful for the Danish couple. Time passed by and business growth became the norm. Soon, the couple were inspired to choose Thailand to set up their own jewellery factory.

The main reasoning behind such an audacious move was not only to expand the business but to also ensure that they still controlled their own designs. Soon the focus turned to the creation of a brand, one that would stand out in the marketplace and allow them to remain the custodians of their own designs but also expand and take on new designers like Lone Frandsen. In 1996, Lisbeth Larsen, a goldsmith and designer joined the company and together with Lone they have played a key part in creating and honing the Pandora style.

The company and brand went from strength and only a few years later in 1999 Pandora launched their now renowned charm bracelet onto the Danish Market.

This evolution saw a huge increase in both the demand for the bracelet but also the brand itself. Not only in Denmark, but across the globe in a host of countries, the Pandora brand has inspired great interest, the jewellery is revered across these foreign markets and this upturn in brand awareness has turned it into a global brand.

So from its humble beginnings in a small shop in Denmark back in the early 1980's, the husband and wife team has grown exponentially over the last 25 years into a company with well in excess of 1000 employees, a headquarters in Copenhagen and employees working in North America and the factory in Thailand.
