Oregon Ducks Tickets : The Oregon Ducks Have Appeared In Ten Ncaa Tournaments
Oregon Ducks men college basketball is an intercollegiate basketball program that
competes in the NCAA Division I and is a member of the Pac-10 Conference, representing the University of Oregon.The Ducks play their home games at McArthur Court, nicknamed The Pit and will play at Matthew Knight Arena beginning in the 2010-11 season. Oregon, then coached by Howard Hobson, won the first NCAA men basketball national championship in 1939. The basketball team has appeared in the NCAA tournament 10 times and has won the conference championship four times.
In 2002, the Ducks attained one of their finest performances ever, going undefeated at home and winning the Pac-10 title. The team went on to defeat Montana, Wake Forest and Texas in the 2002 NCAA Tournament to reach the Elite Eight. The ducks finished their season with a No. 6 ranking.
The following year, the Ducks won the Pac-10 tournament, and received a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament behind the strong play of Pac-10 Player of the Year, Luke Ridnour. However, they were defeated by Utah in the opening round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament.
After a disappointing stretch of seasons from 2004/2006, the team regained its composure and kicked off 2007 with an upset of #1 UCLA on Jan. 6. They attained their best start since 1928, when they started the season 18-1. The Ducks finished the regular season with a 23-7 record and defeated Arizona,
California, and USC to win the 2007 Pac-10 Tournament. In March 2007, the Ducks were a #3 seed in the NCAA tournament.
On March 16, the Ducks defeated No. 14 seed Miami of Ohio 58-56.Oregon continued their run into the 2007 Sweet Sixteen by defeating Winthrop, 75-61. The Ducks defeated No. 7 seed University of Nevada, Las Vegas to secure a spot in the Elite Eight against defending national champions Florida. The Ducks run ended in the Elite Eight, losing to the eventual NCAA National Champions, the Florida Gators.
The Ducks were selected as a No. 9 seed in the 2008 NCAA Tournament in the Southern Region. They lost to No. 8 seed Mississippi State Bulldogs in first-round play on March 21, 2008, in Little Rock, Arkansas.The Ducks have appeared in ten NCAA Tournaments. They won the inagrural NCAA tournament in 1939 for their only national championship. Their combined record is 11/9.
The 1938/39 Oregon Ducks men's basketball team was a Division I college basketball team that represented the University of Oregon. The Ducks, coached by Howard Hobson, played in the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) and compiled a 29/5 won loss record in regular and postseason competition. After winning the PCC title, they became the champions of the inaugural NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
Hobson was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1965, and Gale followed him into the Hall 12 years later. The entire 1938/39 Oregon team has been enshrined in the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, and Anet, Dick, Gale, Hobson, Johansen, and Wintermute were inducted as individuals.
The University of Oregon Athletic Hall of Fame selected the team and Hobson as part of its inaugural class of inductees in 1992. Dick and Gale (1993), Wintermute (1994), and Anet and Johansen (1996) were also inducted in later years. All five of the team's starters have had their numbers retired by the university.
