There are a number of spooky and firework-filled family events occurring in Cardiff

, Plymouth and Bristol this October and November. Cardiff Castle is hosting Spooky Tours and Tales and the Mermaid Quay at Cardiff Bay is home to the Halloween Fright Fest, complete with scary skeletons, tombstones and pumpkin lights.

Bristol is host to the Love Food Festival on Sunday 28th October at the Paintworks. There will be global street food, toffee apple making, mask making and pumpkin carving by two local sculptors. On Wednesday 31st October, families can dress up as a ghost and join a story teller on a river tour to uncover ghostly secrets at the Harbourside.

The Haunted Plymouth Halloween Ghost Walk on the 31st October will allow families to view the darker side of Plymouth, as tales are told of haunted inns and ghosts. Happy Halloween is taking place at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery on Saturday 27th October and children will be able to make spiders, moons, hats, bats and other Halloween-themed items.

Sparks in the Park is the biggest and best annual fireworks spectacular in Wales. Taking place on Saturday 3rd November at Coopers Field in Cardiff, there will be a huge bonfire, pyrotechnic display, stalls, funfair rides and live entertainment provided by Capital FM. The gates open at 16:30 and the first fireworks display will commence at 17:45. Tickets are available in advance or there will be a limited number available on the gate.

Bristol Zoo will be hosting an animal friendly firework display on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd of November 2012. The display will contain the usual pyrotechnics, but without the large bangs, perfect if you have younger toddlers. If you like your fireworks with a bit more of a bang then get down to The Downend Firework Show. If you can not guess from the name it will be taking place at Downend, Bristol on Friday 2nd November, with proceeds from the event going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Bonfire Night at Plymouth will be celebrated on the Hoe Promenade. The large bonfire will be lit at 17:30 and the firework display will commence at 20:00. There will be fair rides and stalls along with coloured floodlighting on local landmarks to complement the bonfire. It set to a truly specular show.

With so many fun things to do over half term week with the kids, why not take the opportunity to book a family break in one of the attractive cities of Cardiff, Bristol or Plymouth? There are plenty of great places to stay.
