Writing a Comparison essays have always been an interesting activity, subjected to make students think and observe the similarities and distinctions among two things. Writing a compare and contrast essay allows one to compare two significant issues or things by observing them keenly or closely that is helpful to develop observing, researching and writing skills. A comparison essay is unique because it has being organised by following two significant methods; Block format and feature-by-feature method. Let us first examine block format. Block format: A block format usually states a question or a reason in the first sentence. It is a tactic to enhance readers interest. Then, stating the names of the two subjects, write about what you are going to describe in the essay; similarities or differences? In the next paragraph, state the features of a subject supported with examples that can prove your observation to be right, or wrong. State and explain each similarity or difference in a new paragraph. For introducing second subject, start a new paragraph with a transitional word showing a link between the first and the second subject. It is necessary to use comparison cue words like; also, unlike, similar to, on the other hand etc. The second subject should also be supported with examples. The conclusion of a block format gives a brief description of the comparison points that are of significance. The conclusion should be end with a strong statement, or any useful prediction. Feature-by-feature format: The introduction of a feature-by-feature writing must state a common reason among two subjects. By stating the names of both subjects, say what you are going to write about in your comparison essay; similarities or differences. Start writing the first body paragraph with transitions. One feature should be stated in one paragraph and must be elaborated on how both subjects share a same feature? Use transitions cues words, as we have discussed in block form and give examples to prove your observation. Conclusion of a feature-by-feature format should deliver the significant comparisons; differences and similarities. Wind up your essay by writing about your personal viewpoint, or outcome.
