. The internationally renowned fashion photographer did decide to it was time for a change though. That was a couple of years ago when he pivoted his life. At that time he was photographing supermodels such as Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Iman for top fashion magazines like Vogue.Deciding he wanted to make a meaningful change in his life Freithof decided to quit photographing glamorous supermodels around the world in exchange for photographing beautiful brides using original techniques learned in fashion. He hasnt looked back. Since making his choice for a new life as a New York wedding photographer Freithof has photographed engagements and weddings (and sometimes the in between) around the world. He has travelled to Vienna, Paris, Italy, Mexico, South America and the Caribbeans and Asia to capture the day of bliss of happily betrothed clients.
These clients have included some pretty big names for a photographer who only recently switched to wedding photography journalism. Robert Duvall would not trust anyone with his wedding photographs other than Wolfgang Freithof. For his wedding in Argentina he wanted only the very best in the business and so he called Wolfgang. Wolfgang said yes and the imagery from the wedding is nothing short of exquisite.
The same was true for the Honduran president who hired Freithof to photograph his sons royal wedding. With the palace and palatial grounds to use as a backdrop Freithof had a magnificent location to shoot. Add to that the history, art and culture rife within the royal palace and he had props fit for a king. But that isnt what makes this particular wedding shoot stand out. Freithof used both color and black and white to create magical images of this spectacular wedding. Images of the bride are breathtaking. Freithof has the same uppermost standards of quality, beauty and art for every wedding he captures and it shows.
Freithof specializes in capturing the mood and emotion of the wedding both behind the scenes and in the forefront on the day. He achieves this brilliantly by actually getting to know the bride and groom and their families before the wedding day. When possible Freithof will plan with the couple weeks and months in advance so that by the time the big day arrives he understands their wishes, their personalities and what is most important to them when he creates the story of their wedding. This makes Freithof unique in an increasingly impersonal world of wedding photography.
Freithof loves the change he has made in his life because as he says, I no longer shoot just beautiful faces, but I do make every face beautiful. I can do this because every bride and groom is glowing on his or her wedding day. Now instead of pictures I create lifelong memories for tomorrow and for generations to come. It is immensely gratifying.
