For the tourist, Phnom Penh offers a veritable feast of hitherto unspoilt attractions that are yet to be made famous worldwide. On the first day of the New Year or Moha Songkran, the people in Phnom Penh and Cambodia in general will assemble in temples and shrines to worship the Lord Buddha by chanting, lighting candles and burning incense sticks. Most locals also wash themselves with holy water to bring good luck. During the second day of the New Year or Wanabat, Cambodians are supposed to do good deeds and commemorate their ancestors. On the third day of the New Year or Tanai Lieang Saka, Buddhists bathe Buddha statues and images of elders using perfumed water to bring about good luck and long life. Houses in Phnom Penh as well as its streets are usually decorated with bright lights, flowers and lanterns throughout the New Year.
