. I just don't like it because its not going to help them this year. This is Moss' contract yearin New England and he wants to get paid.Mosscan be a pain inrear when he is not happy. But Moss has been a model citizen with the Patriot's up until this year, in part because he respects the coaches, the organization and Tom Brady. He's also taken a below market value contract for the last couple of years, because he wanted out of Oakland(who doesn't)and wanted to join a winning team. Now he wants an extension because this will more than likely be his last big contract. It's also a well known fact that the Patriots never over pay in salaries and they also get rid of a player a year or two before his talent diminishes. Like Richard Seymour and Mike Vrabel who were solid players, but the Patriots deemed them expendable.Randy Moss is not. He's still has great speed and can stretch the field.Defenses have to account for him on every play which opens up the entire offense. Moss opened up the running game, teams could not put eight in box,he has allowed those short passes to thebacks and WesWelker (who has admitted he's still not 100%) to be effective and those mediumranged passes to the tight ends tobe open. WithoutMoss there is going to be a lot of clutter in those areas. Brady's job has just got a lottougher.
This time the Patriot's haveout thought themeselves. They think theycan win like they did when they won 3 Super Bowls in4 years with players who were good, butalsoreplacable. They think it was their schemesand their work ethic was the reason they won. There are some who say the cheating helped them. People forget those teams had a great defense and strong veteran leadership. The onlyveteran leadership I see is Tom Brady. I'm not sure he can do it by himself.Belichick is great coach, but he is arrogant to thinkthat thePatriots can winwithover acheiver guys likeWelker, Whitehead and a bunch of second and third year players. I guessBelichick got fooled by Monday nights win against the Dolphins. They won without Moss making a single catch.Belichick must have forgot they were losing at halftime 7-6 , but in reality they should have been down by a lot more, they were being throughly out played. The Patriotsonly won because they ranback a kick off, and blocked a couple of kicks. Those things won't happen against the good teams. ThePatriots defense is also youngand improving, but they gave 30 points to anbelow average Buffalo team. The Patriots need to score a lot of points and Moss helped them do that.It's also never wise tomake Moss mad.ThePatriots play theVikingsin three weeks and Mosswillbe seeking revenge. He'sstill madat Dallas passed him in the draft years ago and he has been lighting them upwhenhe's faced them.
The Patriots have two picks in each of the first four rounds, so they should win the NFL draft championship. But draft picks are risky and there is a good chance there will not even be a 2011 season. You have to win now because you never know what the future holds.
