Myers Briggs Assessment - Type Indicator

When you take one of our Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessments

, you often find out a lot about yourself personally and professionally. Having this type of information can help you make more informed decisions about what kind of job is right for you and how to best interact with others. Unfortunately, many people do not know how to take the next step after finding out the results of their Myers-Briggs assessment. So I am an introvertnow what? The staff at Your Lifes Path would like to help you take your results to the next level so we have come up with a few tips for introverts and extraverts to utilize during the interview process.

Introverts tend to think before they speak and answer questions carefully. This is a great skill to have in an interview since each response is carefully planned and constructed. Introverts tend to answer with their best attempt the first time around, leaving little room to later regret a response during an interview, however, this type of calculated answering can have its drawbacks as well. In some instances, interviewers want to hear quick responses to prove that you know your stuff and can think on your feet. Introverts who dwell on the perfect response to a question for too long can come across as lacking in preparation or uncertain of a topic.

Extraverts, on the other hand, can sometimes speak before thinking; words flow freely to them and answers to any question come naturally, as they are social creatures by nature. This is great in that it shows interviewers that they have the ability to think quickly. If your answers are good, you will come off as being incredibly prepared for the interview, but if your answers are poor, you may seem like you are rambling to make up for lack of knowledge. Extraverts tend to have no problem getting through an interview, but tend to experience regret later on when they realize they could have answered a question better if they would have thought about it for a moment and then responded.

Our suggestion for both introverts and extraverts is to carefully plan out each answer to any questionbefore the interview! Whether you tend to answer off the top of your head or whether you have a knack for thoroughness and careful answers, do your research before the interview. Plan your answers to traditional interview questions, such as Why do you want to work in this industry? and Why do you feel you are right for this position? well in advance, so when the questions are asked of you, your answer is not only well-thought out and organized but also speedy. In order to help you answer questions that cannot be predicted ahead of time, plan out a few anecdotes about yourselfsome that demonstrate your strengths and some that demonstrate how you have overcome or compensated for a weakness. Also, learn as much as you can about the company. This way, even when unexpected questions arise, you will have plenty to talk about. Introverts will benefit from not having to pause while planning their answers and extraverts will benefit from having a well-crafted mental script to draw from. No rambling and no long pauses!

We hope this tip for careful planning will help you in all your future interviews, whether you are an introvert or an extravert. If you are an introvert, have your answers ready so that you do not create long pauses or seem unsure of yourself. If you are an extravert, have your answers ready so you do not ramble or get off-topic, and so you know you are giving the best possible answer. We wish you all the best in your search for a job or position!
