Mortgage Modification - Understanding The Paperwork Involved

You are requesting a mortgage modification from your loan company

, and you have no idea where to start in the matter of the paperwork necessary for the mortgage modification process. Here is a very good general idea of what you are going to need; some additional information for you mortgage modification may be needed as you move along. It may seem like a lot and it can be a bit overwhelming at times, but if you can get your mortgage modified it will be worth it in the long run.

For starters you will need to list all of your debts and your assets. Debts will include student loans, car notes, credit cards, personal lines of credit and any other loans you may have. Assets may include checking and savings accounts, 401's, stocks, properties, and other assets.

You will need to verify your income by providing pack check stubs that are no more than 90 days old, and you will probably need at least 2 of them. If you are self employed, you are going to need copies of your most recent year to date profit and loss statement.

If your income is from a benefit income source such as disability, pensions, social security or any other benefit source, you will need a copy of your benefit award letter for mortgage modification. If you are receiving unemployment benefits, you will need to show a monetary award letter. You must be eligible for benefits for a minimum of nine months from the time you apply for you mortgage modification.

If you have rental income, you are going to need a Schedule E from your most recent tax year. You are not required to use Alimony, Separation or Child Support income for a mortgage modification, but if you want to include it you are going to need to show a court order showing where it was awarded to you. You will also need 2 bank statements to show receipt of payment.

If you are including a non borrower's income they must follow the same income verification process as the borrower does. The servicers must determine up front it the non borrowers income will be consistent.

Different loan companies have different guidelines to the mortgage modification process and what paperwork they require. It is in your best interest to act quickly when you are informed that they need something, the quicker you get the paperwork in to them, the quicker they can work to help you get your mortgage modified.
