For the larger gluing, you may find that bungee cords or binder straps will hold everything in place while the glue dries to hold the boat together.
A couple of sawhorses will help to keep your work at a level so you do not need to bend over. This can prevent unnecessary back pain from working in a crouched position all day long. In addition, your project will be at a level that makes it easier to see what you are doing.
Before you begin your project, you may want to cover the garage floor with a drop cloth or paper. If paint, glue, or fiberglass is dropped onto the surface, it is much easier to clean than if the floor remains uncovered.
If you are a parent, building a boat is a great project to share with a son or daughter. The project can teach both of you new skills and allow you to bond. Your child can provide the extra set of hands you often need in such a project.
Since you are building in the garage, poor weather and cold do not have to stop the project. If you are using finishes or glues, you may need to provide heat so that they can dry. Be careful of open flames with these products as they may be explosive. Be sure that you have plenty of ventilation.
Fishing boat kits make a great project for a person with some knowledge of building practices. If you do not have any experience, you may want to enlist the help of a friend with more experience.
