Men's Eveningwear For The Christmas Season

Smart largemen's clothing can often be overlooked - especially during the festive season. There is so much emphasis on what she is going to wear that it can be easy to forget what he is!

That's why we've put together this handy guide to choosing your Christmas party suit and accessories, it'll help you understand the general rules of formalwear, and help you have a bit of fun with your look.

Choosing the suitMen's Eveningwear For The Christmas Season

Choose a suit that fits you well and suits you. There are very few specific rules when it comes to choosing a suit. If you're a bigger man then single-breasted suits will make you appear slimmer, whilst slim men may be more comfortable in a classic double breasted style.

Choosing a suit colour is also important. Navy, black and grey are all traditional, with grey being a simple choice that both looks good and is highly versatile. A grey suit can go with either brown or black accessories and isn't quite as formal as a black suit.

Remember that a suit jacket isn't always necessary. Smart trousers and an open collar shirt may be sufficiently smart for some informal Christmas parties. If you're not sure, then it's always better to wear a jacket and tie, if you're too formal you can always take them off!

The next issue is what colour shirt to wear, which again depends on the formality of the situation. A white shirt will always look crisp and classic whilst a colourful shirt can have extra personality and be a little more fashion forward. Patterned shirts tend to be much more casual and should only be worn at casual parties, though they can look very good without a jacket/ tie.

If you would prefer something a little different then a pinstripe suit can look very effective. If it's a less formal party then you can have fun with different colours and fabrics. Just make sure the shirt, shoes and accessories complement your suit and work together.

Perfect neckwear

As a rule a bow tie is reserved for only the most formal of occasions, with the absolute smartest being a white bow tie. Black bow ties are ideal for formal situations that specify black tie, as a necktie may not be formal enough.

If you would prefer to wear a bow tie for a semi formal occasion, but are worried about being over dressed then opt for a coloured or patterned bow tie. At less formal events a necktie should be formal enough, with informal parties requiring no neckwear at all.

The colour/ pattern on a basic tie is a personal choice, as is the knot you use. Just pick something you like and feel comfortable in, particularly for smart/ casual or informal occasions.Men's Eveningwear For The Christmas Season

Choosing the right shoes

As a general rule, smart shoes should be worn to any work party, no matter how formal. This shows a degree of care and attention to how you're dressed, as well as being a precautionary measure. If the party continues at a nightclub after-hours you may need to wear formal shoes to get in.

Your shoes should match, or compliment your suit. So a grey suit may be worn with either black or brown shoes. But if you're wearing a black suit, then brown shoes should be avoided

In conclusion it's important that you both look and feel good in your party outfit, but you also need to dress appropriately for the occasion. It's well worth asking about dress code if it hasn't been mentioned. It's far better to ask than show up at a casual party wearing white tie! The most important thing for the Christmas party is that you have a good time! So enjoy the festive season!
