Medical Evacuation when Traveling

When people are sick or injured, whether individually or on a mass scale, they need to be moved as quickly as possible. That is where medical evacuation comes in. These terms refers to the need to move people who have been hurt or fallen very ill from one place to another in the safest possible manner. Medical evacuation is not something that should be taken lightly or executed thoughtlessly. When people's lives are at stake, the risks are very high. There is no room for error. There is an abbreviation for medical evacuation that you may have heard. When people say media, they are referring to medical evacuation.

There are a few main ways to conduct medical evacuations. One is through ground transportation. This is the method we are all familiar with and it is usually called an ambulance. An ambulance is equipped to get sick people to the hospital as fast as possible and to keep their vitals as steady as possible while they do so. Ambulances have flashing lights to indicate to other cars that they need to pull over and let them pass. They are permitted to go much faster than other cars and faster than the speed limit and average speed of traffic.

Another medical evacuation procedure is through helicopter. This is when time is of the essence and the person or people have been so badly injured that their life is at stake if they don't get to a hospital immediately. Because helicopter rides are expensive, they are used sparingly and only in extreme situations. In war environments, helicopter rides are sometimes the only option for someone who is at death's door. If these people don't get to the specialized technology that a hospital offers as soon as possible, they may die. So helicopters are an important part of medical evacuations.

There are many specialized terms that are used by the armed forces to indicate medical evacuations. These are sometimes referring to other vehicles. Land vehicles might include jeeps or busses or vans, and air vehicles might include jets and airplanes as well. Sometimes people need to be moved by boat if there is a battle on an island and a hospital on the mainland. It is all according to situation. The main thing to remember with medical evacuations is that time is of the essence, so you must move very quickly.
