Matthew Good Tickets - Vancouver's Voice

It wouldn't exactly be accurate to call Matthew Good a music entertainer

. After all, that would put him in the same category of the likes of Miley Cyrus and Steven Tyler. And any Good fan would say that he is much, much more than an entertainer. A more accurate description of the role Matthew Good plays in the music scene is a mix between a singer, songwriter, artist and activist. It is his commitment to equality and social justice that has kept his fans coming back for more with every new release. It has also kept Matthew Good tickets in high demand, which fans can get online.

Lately, a few causes in particular have caught Good's attention. One has to do with the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver. In connection with the games, Vancouver is holding a Cultural Olympiad. According to The Ubyssey, Good called artists participating in the Cultural Olympiad "shameful" as it coincides with funding cuts to other, less prominent art organizations. Like other causes Good supports, others don't share his view and welcome any additional money the Olympics bring in to the city.

Another issue Matthew Good feels strongly about is the Vancouver music scene. The city has passed requirements for local music venues, forcing the smaller indie venues to close their doors. He has also noticed a growing gap between the city's rich and poor. To hear Good's views on subjects like this first-hand, fans won't have to land an interview with him. Instead, fans can just take a listen to his latest album, 2009's Vancouver. The album isn't necessarily an ode to his favorite city, but instead is a long list of the problems he sees plaguing his beloved home. He revealed in multiple interviews that his inspiration for the material on the album came from his time living downtown.

Good's many years on the music scene have earned him the right to speak about the subjects featured on Vancouver. He started growing in popularity during the 1990s as part of the Matthew Good Band. The Canadian scene embraced their sound with open arms, and eventually the United States discovered their sound, as well. Their first album, Last of the Ghetto Astronauts, did well with fans despite its independent status, and the albums that followed-Underdogs, Beautiful Midnight and The Audio of Being-were also hits. By the early 2000s, Good was ready to break out on his own, and he released his first solo album, Avalanche, in 2003. He followed with White Light Rock & Roll Review in 2004 and Hospital Music in 2007. Fans of Good are also likely devout followers of his website. On his personal website, Good writes everything from his opinions on various causes to short fiction. Some of his favorite causes to talk about, according to his site, are mental health issues, poverty and foreign policy. His support for mental health issues goes even further, as he has a mental illness himself. After a long struggle, Good was finally diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and he now advocates for more open discussions on the topic of mental illnesses.
