When she opened it, the fortune read, "Joni Lynn, will you marry me?" She was surprised and said, "Yes!" with a smile. Marcus had expected a bigger reaction, but was pleased she said yes. He then presented her with a box of chocolates, with the ring hidden inside.
Marcus Lamb married Joni Trammell on August 6, 1982 at the Tremont Avenue Church of God, Joni's home church, in Greenville, South Carolina. They stood before their family and friends and exchanged vows to love each other forever.
