Many People Enjoy Over 50s Walking Holidays As Part Of A Group

As you drive around the countryside in the summer

, you are likely to see groups of elderly people rambling around and looking as though they are having fun. These are usually people who are enjoying over 50s walking holidays as part of a group. These walking holidays for over 50s are not a new thing but they have become more popular in recent times.

There is a lot of research to show that the way to enjoy your retirement is to stay fit and healthy, both mentally and physically. As we age, we tend to suffer from a number of illnesses which although may not be curable, can be controlled with the use of exercise. About 30% of women and 10% or men are prone to suffer from osteoporosis and one of the ways to avoid this is through regular exercise. Conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes are also kept in check by walking and you can reduce your risk of suffering from heart disease and even cancer by having a healthy routine.

If you do decide that you wish to take up walking, there are different ways to go about it. You can choose to go alone, which gets lonely and boring, or you can join a group which will allow you to make new friends as well as walk in good company, enjoying the sights. If you choose to go on over 50s walking holidays, you can contact your local travel agent or search online as there are many companies which specialise in walking holidays for over 50s.

You will have the freedom to go at your own pace so it does not matter about how fit you are, there will be a group for you to join. You can get to see new places and visit destinations which you would not think to visit by yourself. Walking is also a great way to reduce stress and is recommended by doctors. Ideally, you should try to walk a minimum of 30 minutes three times a week and more if you can manage it. When we are still young we tend not to think about the future and any health problems which may arise, but we should be realistic and plan for the time when we will not be fit and active.

I often have to drive around the country for my job and when I see groups of people walking, chatting and enjoying the weather and scenery, I always hope that when I reach that age, I will be able to something similar and that I will be active enough to enjoy life. I am not yet ready to join a group which goes on walking holidays for over 50s, but when I am, it is something which I will definitely look into. I love the countryside and exploring, especially if there is a castle or other place of interest, and I am looking forward to the day I have the time to enjoy this interest.
