Making Your Messy Child Clean Their Bedroom

If you have kids like I do, you've probably come to realize how much of a pain it can be to clean up after them. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be this way! If you maintain a good attitude and set a routine clean-up schedule, this will go a long way toward teaching your child proper cleaning habits. If you're having trouble teaching your child to keep their room clean and tidy, I have some tips for you to change their baits.

1. Set up a firm schedule for clean-up - Using a sheet of paper and a marker, draw up a schedule that they need to follow. For example, you could set a clean-up time for every night after dinner, or just before bed time. This will give you peace of mind knowing that everything is nice and tidy in your child's room when you go to sleep each night.

2. Give your child the control of cleaning up his or her toys after playing - Set up a toy bin, wicker basket or plastic container for storage of your child's toys. Make sure that they're located in an area of his or her bedroom which they can easily access by themselves. If you pick out colorful toy containers, it will make your child feel much more enthusiastic about putting their toys away.

3. Make cleaning up fun! - Play fun music while cleaning up, or even make a game out of it. You'd be surprised at the results if you can make your child feel like cleaning up is a fun game to play together.

4. Purchase a children's desk - Give your child a desk to use in their bedroom, and each them to keep all papers in one drawer, all crayons and markers in another drawer, and so on. Not only will this teach them to keep things organized, but it will keep their papers and materials from getting all over the house.

If you test out my tips, I'm sure you'll notice an improvement in your child's clean-up habits. Remember, it doesn't have to be a pain! Work with your child, and their habits will change quickly.
