A few years ago I began looking for my own way to begin making money on line
, preferably something that didn't involve a new job. And the internet seemed the perfect place.When I first started looking for ways to make money, no one told me that people go on the internet for specific reasons and that if I wanted to make money I had to give people exactly what they were looking for. Not what I thought they were looking for. Finding this out cost me a lot of money and wasted a lot of my time.
But eventually I realised that millions of people visit Google and other search engines, looking for two things. Either information about problems they have and want resolved or products they want to buy. This is one of the secrets to making money on line.
But before I knew this I spent months making a product, I taught myself HTML, built a website and learned a lot about internet marketing. But I wasn't a success.
Why? Because I was trying to sell what I 'thought' people wanted, this was a huge mistake. I spent a long time writing an information product, only to discover that no one wanted it. I've have never made that mistake again.
If you want to start making money on line you need to do one very important thing - give the customer exactly what they want. Online, this means two things - give them the information or products they are looking for. It may sound obvious but it is a mistake that a pile of other people have made.
Most people online try to sell what they think people want. I'll give you an example of the mistake a friend of mine made. He is a very good hypnotherapist and a damn good stop smoking specialist. So he spent thousands of Dollars of his money putting everything he knew about stoping smoking into an eBook, he built a website and spent thousands advertising what he knew was a great product.
His mistake? People want to stop smoking with a patch or a pill or a one hour hypnosis session or with some other quick cure. No one wanted to know the ins and outs of stopping smoking or everything he was giving them. So even though he got a lot of visitors to his website very few people bought from him. Why? Because he gave them what he thought they wanted, not what they actually wanted.
So the secret to making money on line is to give the customer exactly what they want!
It took me months to get to realise this! And I didn't know that this one discovery propelled me half way towards having my own successful internet business. But I still had to reach my goal - to start making money on line.
With this latest discovery, I found two problems - finding what people want, and having what they want to give to them. The solution to these latest problems can be found by doing a little research and using going to a place called ClickBank.com.
It is a huge market place with loads of companies with products (information and physical products) that people want. So I didn't need my own product or find what people wanted. Clickbank has it all.
By the way I don't make my money from ClickBank and I don't get any commission for mentioning their name. I use their website to find products to sell for other people.
The process is called affiliate marketing. Like a lot of people I was a little weary at first, I didn't know what affiliate marketing was or how it worked. And I didn't want to spend anymore time or money on something that wasn't going to work.
But I'm glad I stuck at it, because it has been by far the best way I have found to start making money on line. Basically I advertise other people's products and get a commission for each sale.
There is a process that needs to be followed to be successful in this business. I'll keep it short because I could go on forever here!
After using ClickBank to find what people want, you need to build a list of people so you can advertise products to them. You can do this with a blog or a website.
This is where people get stuck. Firstly, there is no need to be worried if you don't know HTML or how to build a website because nowadays there are loads of free tools you can use to build a website in an afternoon.
Secondly, I see a lot of affiliate newbies making a common mistake - they try to advertise everything to everyone. I've seen a website where they advertise fair trade coffee, lingerie, car air fresheners, hair loss prevention products and cordless phones!
The website ends up looking like a big advertising board, and tells the visitor one thing and one thing only - 'I'm here to make money from you.'
And I don't know about you but, when I go online I look for something very specific and I will leave a website within ten seconds ( I think studies have shown the average to be seven seconds) if I don't find what I want.
The secret to making money on line with affiliate marketing is to give people exactly what they want. So my blogs and websites advertise one product, and one product only.
But my website isn't one big advertisement! There is a process to affiliate marketing, and it is crucial to making money online that you follow this process.
Once you have decided which products you want to promote and you have a website or blog, you need to establish a good relationship with your potential clients.
I do this by giving them free stuff. But I don't just give them anything! I usually give them a free eBook packed with information that is not only related to what they are looking for, but will also be useful to them.
This way they will see me as someone who is creditable and they will begin to like me and will appreciate the free useful information I give them. Then, and only then can I start advertising to them.
I know that not everyone will buy from me, but some will and that will be more than enough to start making money on line.
By following the correct step by step process, it really is possible to start making money online. You find good products to promote, build a good website, give them free information and advertise to them.
This is basically how I have built my own business. The beauty of it is that once it has been set up and is running, I can start over again with a new product and repeat the process as many times as I want.
