Take stock of the reality of your situation. It can be difficult to do at first, but although you may not realize it you will have begun the process of freeing yourself. So, step one: face the truth that you do not like where you are, that you want things to change.
Step two is to make a list of what specifically you do not like about your current situation. For example, you do not earn enough money, or you dislike being told what to do or working in a cubicle, the work is boring or does not fulfill you, the hours are unreasonable etc. Remember, be real.
Step three is about writing down what you do want. This part is a lot of fun. Let your imagination go wild, and do not say to yourself oh that cannot possibly happen. Remember, at the moment, you are just letting yourself dream. For example, you may want to work for yourself and have flexible hours. Perhaps you want to be able to make good money, and do exciting things with it. Or you may want to be able to support your family well and spend more time with them. Whatever it is for you, write it down.
By the time you have done steps one to three, the idea of change will already seem less scary. All you have been doing is thinking about it, getting your head around the truth of what you want, you still have not taken any risks or any major action. You are still completely safe. You are simply letting yourself become comfortable with the idea of what change can bring you. Familiarity is a very important part of acceptance.
Step five. Start imagining what it would be like to run an online business from home. Think about all the different elements, imagine how your day would go, imagine what it must feel like to be your own boss, make your own decisions, keep all the profit. Still no risk!
Step six is the second action - and there is no risk to it! Find a workspace in your home, and set it up as your office. Give yourself that gift, say to yourself this is where I am going to work, to create my freedom. This is where I am going to be my own boss. Enjoy it, revel in it. Make it fun, share it with friends. Invite them over to the office! Have a office-warming party. Bring life to it. Place the furniture where you want it to be, think about what will make your work easier. You are the boss, the king of this castle.
Step seven is where you start focusing on what kind of e-business you will run. Start reading up about different money making opportunities. Have a look at a range of products and see which ones appeal to you. Make a list of the ones you like the most, and the ones you think you can work with the best. At this point, sit back and look at how far you have come from the days you wanted change but did not think it could ever happen for you. The process of acceptance that you too can get what you need and want will have been gradual and pleasurable - and utterly without risk.
