There are only three times every year when the whole family has the chance to enjoy a getaway of longer than a week

. And while everyone likes to spend some time away during the long summer holidays, there's often just too much to do around Christmas and the new year to make it worthwhile taking everyone away for a much-deserved break then.

In that case, how about Easter? It's a time of year when the days are starting to lengthen noticeably. That means everyone can enjoy plenty of daylight, but not so much that filling the days becomes a struggle. And often, in the summer holidays, that can seem the case.

So for an ideal mix of suitably long days, and some promising spring weather, Easter is a wise choice for families to spend some quality time together.

It might feel as though April is a little early to get out and really make the most of the sun, but by the same token, the weather is usually enjoyably fresh, with several bright days, so it can be a serious alternative time for heading to our most popular holiday destinations before they become overrun by the summer's throngs.

What makes a really top-notch holiday for the young and older family members, though, is having plenty to do, and not having to worry too much about the weather ruining their plans. So heading somewhere which has a full programme of lots going on both indoors and out is surely the solution that's likely to go down best with everyone.

An indoor leisure facility that has fabulous pools and a whole lot more besides is a key ingredient; as too is a programme of live shows which make it feel as though the stars are coming right to your doorstep to perform, along with a free funfair because this is surely what's at the heart of any great British holiday?

Finally, it's great if the smallest family members get just as much fun out of their holiday too. Free soft play areas can certainly help see to that, along with a mini funfair, where they can go around and around as often as they like.

No matter what the kids enjoy doing the best, they can be indulged to their heart's content at a family holiday resort it's a type of holiday that might be catching on in other countries, but it's still one that the British do best.
