Majority Of Tourists Taking Dominican Republic Holidays Come From France
The Dominican Republic has recorded a decrease in the number of European tourists
travelling to the Caribbean island compared to visitor numbers from other destinations arriving over recent years.Despite the declining numbers the majority of European travellers taking Dominican Republic holidays originate from France.
According to the President of the Dominican-French Chamber of Commerce (CCDF), Jean Marc Harion, of the three million tourists that took holidays in the Dominican Republic last year, 1.2 million visitors came from Europe, a figure that is higher than the number of tourist arrivals Cuba and the Mexican Caribbean experienced during the same period.
The majority of these European arrivals came from France with annual numbers reaching 250,000 and beating countries such as Germany, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and Russia.
During a conference held at the Hotel Santo Domingo, the President of the National Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores), Julio Llibre, said that the figures are not a concern for Dominican Republic hotels or tourism industry representatives because they prefer fewer tourists as long as they stay longer and spend more during Dominican Republic holidays.
The hoteliers are aware of the fall in European visitors, and they will be looking to attract tourists from other corners of the world such as Russia and South America in the near future.
The Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of Hispaniola situated in the Caribbean Sea. The country occupies the eastern two thirds of the island and the remaining third belongs to the nation of Haiti.
The country boasts breathtaking landscapes and natural scenery comprising white sand palm-fringed beaches, turquoise ocean waters, rolling green hills, winding valleys, cascading waterfalls, and majestic mountains.
Popular tourist areas in the Dominican Republic include Punta Cana which is situated on the easternmost part of the country and boasts beautiful beaches and the popular Bavaro region that is home to shopping malls, fine restaurants, and luxury beachfront hotels and resorts.
The beach resort of Puerto Plata is another popular spot for tourists visiting the Dominican Republic. Situated on the northern shores of the Caribbean island nation and set against a backdrop of lush mountains; it boasts a beautiful environment made up of pristine beaches and sparkling turquoise crystal clear waters that are perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling activities. The region offers plenty of gourmet restaurants, upscale and family-friendly hotels, historical attractions and fantastic golf courses.
