Located in the Rajsamand District, the fort was built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century and later more structures were added to it until the 19th century. Kumbhalgarh is also the place where the great king and warrior of Mewar, Maharana Pratap was born.

The fort is hemmed in by three mountain peaks which add more charm to it. Standing tall at an altitude of 1100 m, the fort has walls extending up to 36 km in length which makes it the third longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China and the Great Wall of Gorgan in Iran. Also it is the second most important fort of Rajasthan after Chittorgarh fort. Its fortified walls and seven gateways are its major attractions. It also boasts of around 360 temples within its premises, out of which 300 are Jain temples and the remaining ones are Hindu. The fort and the town in which it is located got their names from Rana Kumbha.

There are several attractions inside the fort. Visit Badal Mahal which is a major draw of the fort. It is also the palace where Maharana Pratap was born. It is beautifully decorated from inside and even today it holds its old world charm. All the seven gates of the fort have their own unique features and significance.

During an emergency hour mirror signals could be sent from the Arait Pol which is the first gate of the fort. Hulla Pol or the Gate of Disturbance got its name from the fact that when the fort was attacked by the Mughal army; the army had managed to reach this gate. Even today the marks resulting from cannon shots can be seen on this gate. The third gate Hanumana Pol has a Hanumana temple. Majestic Kumbhalgarh Fort Udaipur by:Caper Travel
