Louisas Walk- A Fascinating Tour Of Hobarts History

One of the most historic cities in Australia, Hobart is a coastal city that attracts many visitors to its shores

. Hobart embraces its colonial heritage with admirable enthusiasm and at the same time welcomes changes which need to be made to meet the demands of the modern world. Visitors to the city can also look forward to sampling the amazing local cuisine at a restaurant located near the city centre, to get a feel of what exactly Hobart is made. In addition to its long list of attractions, the city is home to a variety of places which are of great cultural importance, such as the Lady Franklin Gallery, Narryna Heritage Museum, the Allport Library & Museum of Fine Arts, the Tasmanian Cricket Museum and Louisas Walk.

Louisas Walk is one of the most popular history-related tours in Hobart, which offers the visitor a perfect opportunity to delve deeper into the history the city and its colonial past. As certain parts of Australia were used as a place to where British convicts were to be banished in the past, this largely uninhabited continent gradually started seeing its first European settlers. While most female convicts who were deported had to work as maids or servants, the unlucky ones were sent to work in female factories which were regarded as the harshest places for a convicted woman to serve her time. Five such female factories operated in Hobart during these harsh times.

Those who take the tour of Louisas Walk will have the chance to examine the life of a convict who was banished to Hobart from East London. Named Louisa Regan, she was to work at a dreaded female factory until she served a sentence of seven years. Louisa was sent to Hobart in 1941 for the crime of stealing a loaf of bread. The guided tour will feature two actors one of whom plays the role of Louisa Ragan in a typical costume of a female factory worker.
