London Will Receive Boost to Tourism from Royal Wedding
The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29, 2011 for draws ever closer and the nation's capital can expect a record number of tourists hoping to get involved in the revelry.
As most of us are unlikely to receive an invite to the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, well wishers and devoted royalty fans may want to take a London tour wanting to catch a glimpse of the happy couple.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson has urged UK residents and tourists from around the world to take a trip to the capital city for the royal wedding vows.
Around 600,000 extra visitors came to the city for the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana and hundreds of thousands are expected this time around too. A survey conducted by visit Britain concluded that the wedding will have most appeal to tourists from prospering Brazil, Russia, India and China.
If you do decide to visit some London attractions during the royal wedding weekend - with April 29th now a public holiday this year - you will not be alone.
But do not be concerned that there is a lack of places to stay. According to the tourism body there is still a wide range of accommodation available, so you should not believe the rumours that everything is booked up.
Of course, if you plan to visit London's attractions during the royal wedding, you might want to book accommodation as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
More than 100,000 hotel rooms can be found in London, Visit London assures - although not all will be available- so book well in advance if you do not want to miss out on the royal wedding procession past landmarks including Trafalgar Square.
Visit London reports the mayor as saying that there will be a carnival atmosphere in the city during the celebrations. And with world-famous London attractions to also keep visitors occupied during their stay, there may be no better time to see what the capital has to offer.
Mr Johnson asserts that whether you decide "to spend a week, the weekend or just come for an overnight stay, London promises a warm welcome and an unrivalled array of hotels, restaurants, shops, museums and major attractions to ensure a truly memorable experience".
Chairman of the London Regional Committee of the British Hospitality Association Ciaran Fahy said: "London has a huge range of value accommodation and with our excellent transport links people can find exceptional value rates a few Tube or bus stops away from the centre of London, particularly in Docklands and in either east or west London.
"It's worth remembering that Buckingham Palace is only 40 minutes from Heathrow."
He added that many five-star hotels that are found near Buckingham Palace are only offering packages where people have to stay for a set number of nights.
However, this could provide you with plenty of time to not only catch the royal wedding, but also to explore some of the other things to do in London, England.
Buckingham Palace is one place you may not want to miss whether a royal wedding is taking place in the capital or not.
