London, Much More Than Buckingham Palace

London, Much More Than Buckingham Palace

London is rich with beautiful landscapes, places to get together and have fun

, and incredible sights to see. Combinations of new and old make London a truly wonderful experience.

Before heading to London book your stay online with a holiday apartment. This will not only save you money, but it also gives you all the luxuries of a hotel while giving you an at home feeling when you get back to your apartment at night. This and all the various forms of transportation, including those well known double-decker buses, will save you money allowing you to spend more time in majestic London as well as see more sights.

Besides all the palaces, which are an obvious attraction that are a must see all on their own, there are many other attractions to London as well. Other beautiful buildings that are well known and a must see include the world famous Big Ben and the Tower bridge. The Tower bridge is often mistaken for the London bridge which is actually upstream. The Tower bridge gets its name from the Tower of London which is close by the bridge. Originally painted chocolate brown, in 1977 it was repainted red, white, and blue in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee. While many people refer to Big Ben as the Clock Tower itself, in actuality it is the nickname for the bell inside not the tower. In May of 2009 the Clock Tower celebrated its 150th anniversary from when it first started ticking May 31st 1859.

Then there are the fantastic modern buildings like the "Gherkin" and Tower 42. The "Gherkin" is an amazing feat of engineering, allowing it to use half the energy that most buildings its size would need and contribute to its unique appearance. The building has a crisscrossed panel effect that adds to its unique feature and combined with its phallic appearance is reminiscent of an elongated Faberge egg. In comparison Tower 42 is the complete opposite of the "Gherkin", just looking at it and you can see the immediate difference, for one Tower 42 is much taller and is actually the second tallest skyscraper in London. Tower 42 has the shape of three chevrons in a hexagonal arrangement unlike the smooth curved shape of the "Gherkin".London, Much More Than Buckingham Palace

Beyond the buildings are the parks and gardens that invite people to stroll through them and gather together for events like concerts and sporting events. The Royal Parks are in actuality eight different parks covering almost 4,900 acres of land total and also include Brompton Cemetery which is a green space taken care of by the Royal Parks.. The Regent's Park, one of the Royal Parks, is where the London Zoo can be found. An impressive sight to see, the London Zoo is the oldest scientific zoo in the world. The Hampstead Heath is a 790 acre park not regulated by the Royal Parks and is a major tourist attraction, especially in the summer when concerts are held accompanied with fireworks.
