Surfing is oftenassociated with big waves ridden by adrenaline junkies who are willing to risk it all for the perfect ride. But surfing doesn't need to be so dangerous, and for people on Gran Canaria holidays it's actually a great sport to pick up. If you want to learn to surf it's best to arrange for lessons at a local outfit. They will provide you with a board and clothing to protect you from the surf and salt. Most importantly they will give you the knowledge and encouragement you need to learn to surf.
You willspend a bit of time on the shore practising the technique of getting up on the board - you need to work on this a bit, but it's a piece of cake once you get the hang of it. Once that's done, it's time to hit the surf to and catch some waves. After a few hours of practise you should be up gliding along on the waves in the wonderful Gran Canaria sunshine. An important part of learning to surf is picking the right surf school. There are plenty on Gran Canaria so take a walk round and scope out the different companies.
