Learn how to set boundaries in parenting kids
Setting boundaries is one of the crucial survival skills not only for us but also to people in our community-life.
In parenting children particularly, knowing how to set boundaries will bring control in the family life and reap multitudes of rewards for the kids as well as to us, as adults.
So, how do we set boundaries?
First, we must anticipate what kind of events would be happened wherever we are with the children. And we must know how they will behave or react.
Secondly, list down the guidelines or instructions for them to follow prior the event.
Thirdly, we must ensure these guidelines are reasonable and within the kid capabilities to fulfill
Then inform the child about them and fine-tune them, when necessary, if the child find them unreasonable. Note at this stage, both adult and child have to come to an agreement of the boundaries set.
Lastly, be firm in enforcing the loss of privileges if the child has willfully crossed the set boundaries.
It may take a few trial and errors to fine-tune what kind of boundaries are reasonable and acceptable to the child. However, once we master the ability to set good boundaries, our child would respect us and be willing to co-operate with us.
In summary, setting boundaries is one of the essential life skills in parenting or raising children. It will guide them to form good habits and build good character. And in long run, it will enable them mature into a responsible, self-control and discipline individual.
