Learn Ninjutsu - The Secret Behind The Ninja's Kihon Happo "8 Basic Techniques"

The martial art of ninjutsu - the art of Japan's ancient ninja - is filled with

secrets and unconventional principles and concepts which give this system it's depth, power, and completeness. But, mastery begins with the first step onto the Path.

Students new to the art of ninpo-taijutsu, "the ninja's body art," are introduced to a set of eight techniques. These techniques are collectively known as the kihon happo - the 8 fundamentals. These basic ninja techniques provide the lessons that you will need to lay a strong and proper foundation, not just in the ninja's self-protection methods, but in your progress to higher and deeper levels of mastery.

But, even most of the advanced students of this powerful and ancient martial tradition, have yet to uncover a very important secret that is hidden within the kihon happo. And that secret is this:

The kihon happo is not just about 8 basic techniques!

This secret lies within the name given to this collection of techniques.

Simply translated:

KIHON is "basic," "foundation," "fundamental," and...

HAPPO is typically translated as "8 ways." The word itself, however, is written with two kanji characters. One, the word: hachi, or the number "eight"; and the other ho (po), for "methods" or "ways."

But, when you understand the deeper meanings used when the word "ho" is added to any number, you get a very different idea altogether. And, while the term KIHON HAPPO can, indeed be taken with the basic translation of "eight techniques," it really implies so much more.

So much more, in fact, that once you learn the secret... your training will never be the same again!

To understand this secret, we can actually use the English numeral "8," instead of the classic Sino-Japanese kanji character. When we lay the number eight on its side, what do we get?

We get the mathematical character for "infinity."

And that is what is implied when we add the ho (or "po" as it becomes because of linguistics) to a number. And, it is the key to unlocking the power, depth, and doorway to mastery pointed to by the ninja's kihon happo. Because, what you're supposed to do, after learning each all of the techniques in the set is this:

You're supposed to take each kata, or technique, and make "8" variations out of it. That means that, when you're finished, you will have a total of 64 techniques. But then, you're supposed to take each of these new variations, and...

...make eight variations for each of these! And then 8 more for each of those, and...

Well, you get the picture.

The point here is to be careful when you see any list of "anything" in the art of ninjutsu. Because, if that list is not open-ended - leaving you room to add to it, or account for anything that could be added...

Then it's not a ninja list - but one born of "style," conventional, limited thinking, and narrow-mindedness...

...not mastery!
