Using the laughter consciously is a way to have more fun in your everyday life at work with your collegues.

The conscious use of laughter is called Laughteryoga. Mainly because it was invented in India by Dr. Madan Kataria.

Now laughteryoga is found in more than 10.000 Laughter Clubs all over the planet.

The facts

Laughter Yoga is a totally one-of-a-kind series of exercises which combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing (Pranayama). Anyone can laugh without needing to rely on jokes. Laughter is first simulated as a physical exercise while trying to maintain eye contact with the others in the group and acting like children. In most cases this soon leads to real and contagious laughter. Scientific reports have demonstrated that the body does not differentiate between faked and real laughter. (Dr. Gerald Ellison of Cancer Treatment Centers of America). Laughter Yoga is so far the only exercise that gives adults the chance to achieve long term hearty laughter not using thinking. It passes by the intellectual systems that normally stop the natural laughter.

Laughter Yoga sessions begin with gentle warm-up exercises which include stretching and body movement. These help minimize peoples inhibitions and it develops into feelings of being playful. Breathing exercises are used to prep the lungs for laughing, followed by a number of laughter exercises that put together the way of pretending and visualization with playing. These exercises, if combined with the strong social dynamics within group behavior, often lead to prolonged and sound laughter without conditions. Laughter exercises are leading to breathing exercises. 20 mins. of laughter is sufficient to develop full physiological improvements.

A Laughter Yoga meeting may finish with a Laughter Meditation. This is a part of the session with unstructured laughter where the participants lie down and allow the natural laughter to flow like a river. This is undoubtedly a powerful experience that often leads to a rewarding emotional catharsis as well as a feeling less stress and being filled with joy that will last for days. Free laughter can naturally becomes meditative relaxing.

Laughter Yoga reminds us that although we think we have it all figured out, someone shows up to prove that we didn't. Dr. Kataria invented a new way of laughter to help improve healing faster, and today Madan's method has become useful in countless areas of life that it's almost incomprehensible. Today laughter is diversely used for therapy, fun, healing and teambuilding just to mention a few. We all owe great thanks for inventing Laughter Yoga.

In the mid-1990's Laughteryoga was practiced in the early mornings, primarily by groups of older men in open parks. Later, a more structured meeting was made and popularized as Laughter Clubs. Dr. Kataria's first Laughteryoga experiment was initiated on March 13 1995 in Mumbai. Beginning with 5 people in a local public park, the concept has rapidly spread globally. 15 years later, there are more than 10,000 Laughter Clubs in more than 65 countries.
