Last Minute Details To Consider Before Your Wedding

Last Minute Details To Consider Before Your Wedding

Youve been planning your wedding for months. Youve diligently crossed off what have probably amounted to hundreds of items from your massive to-do list. The venue, vendors, guests, gifts, music, menu and more have all been taken care of. But even for couples that plan like pros, there are inevitably a few last minute details that will need your immediate attention right before, or even on the big day. This is particularly true for large weddings.

As much as wed like to think that we can plan for everything well in advance, its rare for such a large and momentous event to go off with out a few last minute surprises. This is admittedly a less than comforting thought for meticulous brides and grooms to be. And if the whole concept of these last minute issues makes the well organized among us a little unsettled, you can imagine what it does to the ranks of already frazzled procrastinators out there.

Before you start to feel your blood pressure go up, take a look at this helpful guide to last minute wedding details. While it may not be comprehensive enough to alleviate all pre-wedding stress, it just may give you the insight you need to dodge at least a few bridal bullets.

Its crunch time on your big day. Give yourself a little peace of mind by getting in touch with your vendors and confirming that they have the right address, as well as your contact information (or that of whomever is coordinating the event). Double check to make sure that the caterers, the band and all the other key players are showing up to the right place at the right time. When the time comes to pay your vendors, be sure you get a detailed receipt. In the frenzy of the big day, and the frenzy that follows it, its easy to lose track. Youll want to be able to prove that youve paid everyone for their services.

Speaking of payment, its a good idea to create neat little sealed tip envelopes with the names of each vendor. That way you can insert the right amount for the DJ, wait staff, or banquet captain, rather that forking over a wad a bills. Bring a bit more cash than you planned on tipping, just in case someone goes above and beyond the call of duty for you. You never want to be unprepared to say thank you.

If youre staying at a hotel after the reception comes to a close, you may want to consider dropping off your luggage the night before or on the morning of the wedding, or asking a family member to drop them off for you. This is a simple way to avoid the stress and panic of forgetting your bags. Pre packing is also a good idea when it comes to your honeymoon. Plan and pack your honeymoon wardrobe as soon as possible. And be sure to have your travel documents, tickets and passports ready to go too.

When it comes to all the little details, like wedding favors, the cake knife and toasting glasses, be sure you have them delivered to the reception location a few days in advance. This eliminates a whole slew of mix ups and mistakes on the big day, and can reduce your stress level dramatically.

If youre serving alcohol at the wedding, its smart to give your bartender as much notice as possible concerning the drink menu. Give him or her the drink list at least one day before the wedding to eliminate any confusion, and to ensure that all the necessary ingredients are available.

Take some time to speak with your photographer before the big day, too. A seasoned pro will ask these questions on his or own accord, but its helpful to provide a list of guests youd like group photos of. He or she will most likely get the obvious guests, but if you have a special request, like a group of old college roommates for example, be sure to speak up in advance.

Review your place cards, menus, programs, table numbers and all other printed materials a few days before your wedding. Misspellings are almost impossible to fix when its down to the wire. You can avoid this embarrassing faux pas by having a thorough look over your order a few days ahead.

By taking a few preventative measures, you can avoid a lot of unexpected problems on the big day. In general, its best to assume that youll be frazzled and distracted for the majority of the day when you say I do, so leave as few things as possible to the last minute. By preparing ahead and staying organized, you can eliminate stress and maybe even have a chance at relaxing as you start this exciting new journey of life.
