BENIDORM HOLIDAYS are a time for celebration so celebrate yours in the village of La Nucia, just a few kilometres from Benidorm and a world apart from the hustle and bustle of normal holiday destinations. The one thing you will notice about La Nucia is the many individually designed villas, often surrounded by large Mediterranean gardens abundant with colour all year round. There is no concrete jungle that you find in so many other Costa Blanca towns. If it's culture you're after you have definitely come to the right place with a 600 seat concert hall and an outside auditorium with a seat capacity of 3,000. It's a popular place for many local and international orchestras, while never too far away are several galleries offering various art forms to the discerning tourist. If you're prepared to do a bit of hunting there are plenty of historical monuments local to the region, beyond the walls of La Nucia you would need a car however although there are many direct routes. La Nucia is only 10 kilometres away from the bright lights and noises of Benidorm, 53 kilometres from Alicante and 115 kilometres from Valencia.
In February of this year 2011, residents of La Nucia gathered to watch the laying of the first stone to a new development in the area. At the entrance to the town on the industrial estate will be an eco-park, its planned 20,000 square metres with 16,000 metres set aside for a large barbecue zone, public toilets, reception area and nature leisure park. The stone was laid by the Mayor Bernabe Cano and the Regional President Joaquin Ripoll, and once finished the eco-park will be recycling 30 different types of waste products, have its own recycling plant, an education centre and an exhibition hall.
Each year La Nucia plays host to various festivals and like most of the Spanish towns and villages the festivals are always filled with so much colour, drinking and partying often going on till the early hours. The most notable festivals celebrated from the 15th to the 18th August in honour of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, the holiday of San Rafael is always celebrated on the third Sunday of November, and the second Monday of Easter plays host to San Vicente.
