Know Your Child's Absorbent Mind

A child acquires his skills through living.

He notices the people around him. He absorbs some of these words. He then attempts to mimic them. In a few months, he will say his first word, "mama".

Montessori, a well-known educator, developed the study of a child's absorbent child. Maria Montessori was the leading pioneer in the study of a child's developmental stage. She studied children of different age groups.

A child absorbs his environment wherever he may be. Such capability naturally flows within him. This is how he acquires his basic abilities like speaking and walking. He acquires them through living.

According to Maria Montessori, there are two phases of a child's absorbent mind. The first phase is the unconscious absorbent mind of a child. It happens from the time he was conceived by her mother to the time he turns three.

A child is not yet fully aware of his surroundings. He can not distinguish a good from bad or a right from wrong.

He simply absorbs everything around him.

Thus, it is the time to expose the child to positive and nice environment. This is the start of his developmental stage. What he will become depends on this phase.

Parents should be careful in their words. Once your child grows up and starts to say something, you do not want to hear them say malicious words.

The second one is the conscious absorbent mind. The mind is unaware of what it is absorbing.

After acquiring the knowledge to speak and to walk, a child learns to move deliberately.

Maria Montessori said that this is the time your child develops freedom. Your child acquires freedom at an early age.

Your child is now aware that he is walking towards a table or that he is opening his mouth to utter words. This is also the time your child starts to become independent. He starts to want to do things by himself.

A child should not be deemed as heartless, senseless or nave. At an early stage, he discovers and explores the world by himself in his own unique way.

Maria Montessori, a brilliant educator who pioneered the Montessori method and philosophy, taught many people to focus on the child's development and growth.

Consequently, at any Montessori center on the Gold Coast, the Montessori Method and philosophy help develop your child into a complete human being.
