Kids shoes knowing what to look for when youre buying them
If finding the right pair of shoes for yourself is sometimes difficult then buying school shoes or casual shoes for children is even more tricky. Not only do you have to find a pair that look right but you also have to make sure that they fit perfectly.
It's essential that the shoes you buy your children have enough room in them for children's feet to grow. Most experts suggest that this 'growing space,' should be about half an inch or around one centimetre. This will normally represent the amount a child's foot will grow before the shoes either wear out or, children being children, simply get so scuffed and damaged that they can't be worn anymore.
Having this extra space will also avoid putting too much pressure on the child's feet. Children's bones are slightly softer and more malleable than those of adults and so tight or ill fitting shoes are not just uncomfortable, they can cause damage. Similarly, the skin on children's feet is not as tough at adults' skin and so it can be much more sensitive.
School shoes are often more formal than casual shoes or sandals so make extra sure that they are not too tight or too rigid to allow the children's feet to move and grow properly. Whereas adults can easily identify the source of discomfort in their shoes or take action, children are naturally less articulate and might often complain generally that their shoes hurt or they will simply refuse to wear them. Listening carefully when your children talk about their footwear is important. Ask them to point to exactly what is uncomfortable. Examine their feet for any redness or tenderness that could indicate where the problem could be, if they don't point to it themselves. In the shop when you're buying your kids shoes watch them carefully as they walk around and you'll soon see which shoes work best for them.
