Kids Ride On Buying Guide

Kids Ride On Buying Guide

Kids Ride Ons or ride on vehicles are a great way for kids to learn co-ordination

, spatial awareness and balance on wheels. They also let children enjoy the outdoors when it's fine, but can be moved indoors easily come winter. Here's a guide on what you need to know before making a purchase

Types of Kids Ride On Vehicle

There are several types of Ride On vehicle to choose from, including: bikes, quads, cars, motor bikes, jeeps and tractors.

They all offer various degrees of functionality but mostly the choice comes down to what your children will enjoy.

So if you've got a budding race car driver in your ranks ride on cars may well be the best option, or maybe you've a young farmer who's ready to get ploughing in which case a tractor may be the perfect choice.

Foot to Floor Ride Ons

Foot to Floor Ride Ons or pedal ride ons feature, as the name suggests, pedals. Kids are fully in control of their own speed and fuel. They don't require any power (other than a good breakfast) and hardly any maintenance is required.

Pedal power is of course good and healthy exercise for children, and is therefore a great way of improving your child's fitness.

With relatively low speeds possible (especially when tired) these are a safe and easily controlled way for your kids to get around on their own - without undue safety worries.

Electric Ride Ons

Electric Ride ons or battery ride ons come in various different voltages. All require charging and all Electric Ride Ons come with charging devices so kids can get riding straight away.

Most Electric Ride Ons feature a throttle either as a push pedal or a handle twist. These usually feature either one or two speeds and a reverse setting.

Electric Ride Ons usually come in three different battery voltages: 6v, 12v or 24v.

6v tend to be the most cost effective and most popular Ride Ons. With slightly less power than the rest, 6v Ride Ons can go up to a maximum of 5km/h (3mph).

12v slightly more expensive, 12v Ride Ons pack a slightly weightier top speed of 8 km/h (5mph) and can be found throughout all Ride On ranges.

24v less plentiful than the other Ride Ons, you'll find a few 24v Ride Ons that are capable of speeds up to a massive 14mph!

Petrol Ride Ons

Petrol Ride Ons boast 4-stroke engines and are fully motor powered and capable of speeds up to 25mph.

Engines range between 50cc and 100cc and most include speed restrictors and parental cut-off switches all will stipulate if so.

Most petrol Ride Ons feature electric start switches and full suspension. They're an excellent choice for those looking for a more grown-up option (suitable for ages 7 - 14) and a great way to speed around an open space

Ride On Features to Look out for

Many Ride Ons include additional features that are well worth looking out for. These include:

Lights and sounds

Some Ride Ons go out of their way to install a sense of realism. Real working headlights help to shine the way, and real engine sounds create a noise just like mum and dad's car.

Working seat belts

Some Ride Ons even come with working seat belts to add yet further realism to you child's driving experience.

Adjustable seats

Very realistic and also very practical; working adjustable seats can be positioned to accommodate different sized children more comfortably.
