Kerala is a state in the south-western part of India. It was created on 1 November 1956 by passing the States Reorganisation Act bringing together the areas where Malayalam was the dominant language.

Kerala got the name God's own country because of the wide variety of its flora and fauna and the beauty of the state blessed with the greenery which has helped to attract tourists towards it.

The state got its name by the fusion of two words. 'Kera' which means 'Coconut tree' and 'alam' which means 'land' or ' location'. Thus, the name 'Keralam'. The natives of the state are known as 'Malayalis'. In Puranas, it has been referenced that the state by created by Parashurama by throwing his axe into the sea.

Since its independence on August 15, 1947, the state was managed and it existed as a democratic socialist welfare economy.
