The female R&B singer is a mainstay of top 40 hip-hop and dance music, often integral in providing the catchy hook on an otherwise rough track. With the popularity of the auto-tune effect in hip-hip, many rappers have taken to experimenting with singing their own hooks, effectively putting the female R&B singers out of work. The effect doesnt seem to be losing any steam, but hopefully the female R&B singers can make a comeback with their own full-length albums. Christina Aguilera The fourth full-length album from powerhouse vocalist Christina Aguilera is due out in 2010 and is said to feature collaborations with alternative rock singer/songwriter Sia, feminist band Le Tigre and British Tamil songwriter and rapper M.I.A., as well as more hip-hop influenced tracks which she has not dabbled in since 2002s Stripped. After the controversy over Aguileras provocative image in the early part of the decade she has laid relatively low, releasing a double disc album of standards and standards-influenced songs as Back to Basics in 2006. The new album looks to be Aguileras big comeback into mainstream top 40 music. Brandy After Brandys 2006s car accident that led to the death of one person and the subsequent bad press that accumulated, she has laid low releasing the sober Human album in 2008 which showed her softer side and seemed to intentionally avoid the more upbeat club numbers possibly because of the car accident. I wouldnt be surprised if the record label shelved all of the hip-hop tracks after the incident to stop any critics from calling the album inconsiderate to the lost life caused by Myas accident.
