More than 50 thousand travelers visit this place every year though the route to reach the cave of Amarnath is very dangerous and hazardous

. The number of devotees is increasing with every passing year. The journey from Jammu is by road where the first destination would be Pahalgam.

Pahalgam-Jammu is approximately 300 km away from Pahalgam and this distance is covered by either Taxi or bus. These are available at the tourist centre of Jammu & Kahmir.Another way is to take a flight to Srinagar and then move to Pahalgam by road.Pahalgam is known for its beauty all over the world and people from all corners feel it is actually heaven on earthYour browser may not support display of this image. . Pahalgam, a little town positioned on the edge of River Lidder and it is enclosed by lofty mountains. All necessary things can be purchased here. There are number of good hotels but there is a provision of Langar also by the Non Government organizations.

2. CHANDANWARI:

Pahalgam is nearly 15km from Chandanwari. The way is fine and commuting is not a problem. Buses are plying at regular intervals from Pahalgam to reach Chandanwari. 3. PISSU TOP:

Your browser may not support display of this image. As we move forward we continue further from Chandanwari and one needs to climb a height to get to Pissu Top. There was a war between Rakshas and Devtas that who will first reach for darshan of Bhole Nath Shivshankar. With the influence of Shiv , devtas could slay the rakshas in such a huge number that the mound of their dead bodies has resulted in this high mountain.

4. SHESHNAG:

This second day's trek of 12 kms from Chandanwari is through Pissu Top and spectacular, primeval countryside, and reaches Sheshnag - a mountain which derives its name from its Seven Peaks, resembling the heads of the mythical snake. 5.PANCHTARNI:

Your browser may not support display of this image. From Sheshnag one has to climb steep height up across Mahagunas Pass for 4.6 KM and then descending to the meadow lands of Panchtarni at a height of 3657 mtrs (12000 ft).

6. THE HOLY CAVE SHRI AMARNATH:

The Holy Cave of Shri Amarnath is only 6 kms from Panchtarni. This place has no dwelling facility that is why the pilgrims commence early in the morning.The devotees camp out at Panchtarni while some other continue their journey and come back to Sheshnag by the evening.
