Is your teenager looking for employment? Many teens have difficulty finding jobs because part time jobs for teenagers can be challenging to locate. For one, many teens do not have the use of a car or may not be of driving age. Two, teenagers have school schedules which may prevent them from working the hours an employer needs. Many young people also find routine clerical type jobs boring. Just as when adults search for jobs a little creative thinking goes a long way in helping teens find work that is both fun and profitable.1. Look at your school programs - Work study programs at school will help teens find jobs. People in the community offer a variety of jobs to high schoolers. The programs are usually structured so your child would attend school part of the day and then work part of the day. Check with the school administration to get details for your school.2. Catalog your academic skills or musical ability - If you are good in math, foreign language, science etc. you can become a tutor. Many teachers help kids after school to earn extra money but if you charge a little bit less parents who are looking to save a bit of money will hire you. Also some children relate better to a teenager than an adult. Additionally, there are franchised tutoring centers such as Kumon Math and Reading that hire smart teenagers to work in the centers. If you are a musician and are an advanced player you can teach beginner students. You could also work at a music store. You will expand your skills and make money. Good musicians can play at weddings, birthday parties etc. to earn extra money. 3. Baby-sitting - Babysitting is an easy way for teens to earn extra money. If you are not old enough to drive the parents will usually give you a lift. To give yourself a competitive edge you might consider taking a Red Cross first aid course so that you know how to handle emergencies. You might also want to volunteer at your church if there is a day-care center there. You can pick up a lot of valuable experience that way. If you get together a group of other teens who want to baby sit you will be able to say "yes" more often and that will increase the number of calls you get.4. Lawn or yard care - During the summer you mow lawns, trim hedges and so on. In the fall you rake leaves. In the winter you shovel snow and also put up Christmas lights and decorations.5. Baked goods (cookies, cakes etc.) - Many families are too busy to have time to make their own baked goods but they are concerned about giving their family good foods. Home baked cookies and cakes generally have less sugar and additives than store brought brands. Using only organic ingredients could make your product more special. Working moms might need a home-baked cake for a school bake sale or a party. You could provide baked goods for special occasions like these or sell baked goods at local craft or farmers' markets. Check local health laws as you are starting this sort of activity. 6. Dog walking or vacation pet care - If you like animals you can earn money walking dogs or pet sitting. Check your local newsletter to see if your neighborhood newspaper allows you to advertise for free. You could also "plant sit.", if you enjoy gardening. People who have extensive gardens might need someone to care for their plants while they are out of town. .6. Errand-running for busy people - Busy parents often do not have time today to pick up dry cleaning, to buy groceries or to run other errands. Your business would handle these tasks for them.7. Washing cars for neighbors - Many people don't have time to wait in line at the car wash and moms with small children don't want to take their kids along. Your business can be washing cars in your neighborhood. The price of car washes has really gone up lately and the do -it-yourself ones take a lot of time. Probably many moms with small children would like to have their cars washed and vacuumed especially.8. Teaching older people how to use computers or the internet - Many older people want to learn to use computers but need someone who is patient and will go slowly with them. If you understand computers and are patient, they will be willing to pay you to help them. You could come to the customer's home (or they to your home) and you could charge on a half-hourly or hourly basis. 9. Creating Web Sites - If you are artistic and technically minded, there is a great opportunity available right now creating web sites for small businesses. A small business may not want to pay the price for a professional and be willing to hire you to set up a simple web site for them. Or try creating your own web site on a subject that interests you and make money selling ads on it with adsense. 10. Making and selling something unique - If you are artistic, the sky is the limit. You can draw portraits, do caricatures or possibly paint furniture. Many people like murals painted in children's bedrooms. If you are good at arts and crafts you can create items that people would give for teacher or co-worker gifts.Part time jobs for teenagers really do exist, when you help your teen assess their skills and then brainstorm with them for ideas. When you come up with an idea, do a little market research and find out if it is viable. For instance if your teen decides to make a gift product, quiz your friends and see if they would buy it. If your teenager wants to be a dog walker, see if there is a need for this. While your child is doing the market research they may come up with different idea neither of you thought of.
