Is Tuition A Burden To Children?

Is Tuition A Burden To Children?

In Malaysia, tuition has become part of the educational environment to such an extend that nobody doubts its significance anymore

. Long time ago, tuition used to be the field of the rich students in Malaysia. However, tuition has become an almost necessary supplement for all students regardless of their economic conditions now.

The main reason of those who choose to attend tuition is because they have difficulty coping with some subjects in school. Of course, there are exceptions to the usual reasons. Several students are sent to tuition by their parents regardless of their own preferences. Parents are naturally anxious that their children will lose out to those who go for tuition classes. Some parents faithfully believe that tuition is a must during major examination years.

Is tuition becoming a burden for children? Children are unable to live their young life fully. Tuition usually comes out the strongest competitor for the children's time. It seems that children are sometimes working longer hours than their parents. Children will miss their childhood time in this kind of tuition lifestyle. Tuition classes take up many afternoons and evenings; children have less time for rest and extra-curricular activities, little private time of their own, let alone time for sporting and leisure activities?

Some students are forced by their parents to attend numerous tuition sessions, to the extent that the tuition centers have become a second school. They are largely 'abused' by their parents' over concern for diplomas and certificates. Thus putting massive pressure on young brains and probably setting the students into undesirable attitude patterns as a result of a super competitive environment that has no place for initiatives, adaptability and creativity. Students are not only pressured, but emerge memorize the facts but not fully understood. Rote learning becomes the custom. As a result, examination scores become the yardstick of performance, instead of genuine learning.

Students attending tuition classes bring home not only the lessons but also the pressure as well. The growing number of cases of student depression and even suicides provide a harsh reminder of the impact of extreme pressure on young minds.
